from Former US Navy Admiral, William H. McRaven
PSA from a (Navy) Dentist’s Daughter
As a passionate fan of the entire military, composed of brave men and women who fight for this beautiful country, I am enthralled by this simple piece of advice. My dad and my father-in-law were both Navy men and their simplicity and logic can amaze me at times. Reacting to situations as if they had the knowledge of the world under their belt. Able to tell stories at will like no others. These men, I have a feeling, approach life the same way. Start out each morning bright and ready for the day. Make your bed, step one. I love this Admiral for telling me that if I had a bad day, at least I accomplished my first task.
Admiral McRaven also talks about the fact that if you cannot accomplish the little tasks, you probably won’t accomplish the big ones. A fundamental building of personality and confidence starts with the little tasks. A sense of order.
And of course, I love a man in uniform. My dad next to my mom in his Navy whites! My oh my! I watched commanding officer of the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights, LTC Carlos Ramos being interviewed by ABC this morning before Grandpa Ross jumped. What a happy confident man.
But my favorite part of the Admiral’s speech was when he said, “If you want to change the world, measure a man by the size of his heart”. Be more giving and forgiving. Work as a team, collaborate.
I love to be inspired. These heroes in the Armed Forces inspire me. Hopefully their sacrifices, and cool calm knowledge of the world can inspire the rest of us. Do better!!
